Get On Board With Star Wars Miniatures
For decades Star Wars has been a household name, so it is only fitting that the Star Wars Miniatures games are so popular. People young and old alike have a fondness in their hearts for the characters and the unparalleled story lines Star Wars offers. Therefore, the introduction of these tabletop games was an ingenious way to allow Star Wars fans to pass time with friends and family while enjoying an iconic movie theme they so dearly adore.
The game made its original debut in 2004 but now comes in a large variety of different versions. The 60 miniature piece theme sets currently available are: Rebel Storm, Clone Strike, Revenge of the Sith, Universe, Attack of Endor, Champions of the Force, Bounty Hunters, Starship Battles, Alliance and Empire, Rebels and Imperials, Force Unleashed, Battle of Hoth Scenario Pack, Legacy of the Force and Knights of the Old Republic. Each piece is a well-constructed and fully painted replica of the actual character from the different Star Wars eras. From this point on, the number of miniatures included in each game decreased. Star Wars: Clone Wars Battles Scenario Pack, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Imperial Entanglements, Jedi Academy and Galaxy at War each come with 40 miniatures per set. There are online sources for cheap Star Wars booster packs if you know where to look.
Even with this impeccable range of games to choose from, more are scheduled to be released in 2010. You can look forward to “Dark Times” in January or February and “Masters of the Force” sometime close to April.
Every one of these games is quite distinguished from many other popular tabletop games. From the wicked “Force Powers” which serve to wreak havoc and ravage other figures to the “Force Ratings” that allow for re-rolls or enable the use of “Force Powers” and even the Commander Effects that deal for the most part with giving bonuses, special capabilities and enhancements to allies in the game, the variances are plenty. Additionally, the miniatures also range in size from small and medium which occupy only one square on the board, large which takes up four squares, huge requiring nine squares and colossal which spans even more than nine full squares on the game board. Larger pieces can be found being sold as Star Wars miniatures singles.
In case there is no one home to play the games with, use of the VASSAL Engine allows the game to be played online with up to three other people world wide. This is just another fan-pleasing option offered by the amazing Star Wars Miniatures.
