Google Submit and Adsense
For the enterprising web developer, knowing how Google operates can mean the difference between success and failure for an entire website. Google is by far the most popular search engine, with almost half of all web surfers using it. With this in mind, it becomes clear that Google can either be your best friend or your worst enemy.
Today, we’ll be looking at two key components of the Google experience: getting your website listed, and making the most out of their Adsense program.
Getting to the Top:
For a website to properly utilize search engine traffic, it needs to first appear in the search engine’s database. Google offers a “Submit” function to manually list a website, but to put it bluntly, Google submit is a waste of time. Search engines utilize small programs called “crawlers” or “spiders” to search through the web and find new websites. If a website is designed correctly, Google’s crawlers will automatically add it to the search page.
But why is Google submit so worthless? Put simply, if a website isn’t automatically added by the crawlers after a few weeks of it coming online, it is not designed well. Websites using content-relevant keywords and streamlined layouts are easier for the crawlers to navigate, and thus they appear higher on the search results. Websites listed using Google submit never appear on the first page, and very few people ever see them.
Making Money with Google AdSense:
The second key to fully utilizing Google is taking part in their AdSense program. This program allows Google to mediate between advertisers and the websites displaying these ads. A webmaster simply pastes in a few lines of code, and keyword-relevant advertisements appear on their website. When users click on these ads, the webmaster makes money. It’s extremely simple, and completely free to sign up for. Put simply, webmasters have no reason not to be using AdSense.
