Plastic Pond Options You Should Be Aware Of
For those people who would like to do something with their gardens, a garden plastic pond is one of the best options to go for. There are several different options to get around to doing a pond in your garden, some are easier to work with than others, but it can be generally stated that any pond can be made in two days and for less than a thousand dollars.
Two major variations of pond liners are flexible and rigid variations. Both have to be UV, freeze and puncture resistant to be able to be the reliable base of your garden pond. The type of appliance will make you decide on the particular used material, but the general statement can be made that pre-formed liners are easier to work with.
If you had an above ground pond in mind, with all the artificial topiaries, fake rocks and half barrels, you ruled plastic liners out right off the bat. Even the strongest available material rigid liners need to be supported in order to take the pressure of a few dozen gallons of water, this is where the features come handy to hide the scaffolding.
In ground ponds are even easier to make, you basically just have to dig the hole, fit the preformed mold and fill the gaps around the form. There is one point where the rigid variation comes short, and that is the variety flexible solutions offer. You won’t have to refrain from trying new shapes of ponds and that probably makes up for the more complicated installation process.
I would personally go for the plastic liner. They are easier to ship and therefore cost less to get to your doorstep, not to mention you are not restricted to the shape the manufacturer imagined you will like. Of course it is a bit harder to lay down, but it will make up for that in other attributes.
Flexible liners are available in extruded polyethylene, PVC and rubber sheets. The first is rather easy to work with, the cheapest version and is light weight. Rubber provides the more robust setup, it is the most resistant to weather and other damage factors, but is also the most expensive thing you can line your garden pond with.
Whatever solution you may choose, always look around before you part with any serious amount of money. Looking around in forums is probably a good place to start, but asking around at local retailers is also highly advised.
