Safety against ignition with Explosion Proof Enclosures

Explosion proof enclosures are products that have an electrical shock and have been exclusively created as a protection against ignition hazards like detonations. These enclosures can be built of several varieties of components. Amongst these the commonly used components are fiber glass, heavy duty steel and aluminum. Explosion proof enclosures are highly used at many important locations like gas stations, oil refineries and paint factories. Explosions in the electrical meshes are usually caused due the developing of the fire triangle. The fire triangle is formed by three components. These are the spark or the ignition point, oxygen and fuel. When these three are compounded in a particular ratio, electrical explosion takes place.

To stay inside the normal safety limits, the volume proportion of the fuel to the oxygen must not exceed the volume ratio existing between the common explosive point of the fuel, and the source of lighting. On exceeding the ratio, a discharge in the energy occurs, causing ignition in the fire triangle mixture. The detonation proof enclosures aid in removing the potential explosion risk by removing all the inflammation sources from the site. An enclosure that is internationally certified as having all explosion resistant qualities must be used for the purpose. The explosion resistant enclosures work by withstanding all the three internal forces which might otherwise accumulate in causing a fire blow ups.

An explosion resistant enclosure requires being in a special layout and design. An organized figure will ensure that hot gases to pass through the ventilation systems which will allow the electrical arrangement to remain cool, at a temperature below the critical ignition point, in case, there is some hazardous fuel. This is the reason why the enclosures are made using hard components like aluminum and cast steel. The enclosures also need to have wide rims. The rims should be stuck to the finish and should posses a good tolerance.

The explosive resistant enclosures in accordance with the threaded cover will generate long and narrow paths. The possible dangerous hot gases will go through these thread tubes, giving up the heat to the metal, and in the process reducing the explosive force. However, the cover bolts of the enclosure must be well torque to the recommended value. Also, it is to be kept in mind that the ejection surfaces of the explosion proof enclosure remains protected throughout from marks. This is because, if the torque is not rightly generated and the projected surfaces are broken, then the consequent hot gases will leak away. Besides, the chances of explosion will become more if the outside atmosphere of the enclosure is prone is explosion.

This is the cause why, the explosion proof enclosures are always exist in almost every kind of factory. Each electric device has its own qualities and thus the enclosures needed for different purposes are labeled accordingly, also keeping in mind the environmental rules set up by the National Electrical Code or as per the IEC Standards.
